HEavy Equipment Operator
Heavy Equipment Training Course is 8 weeks long. Three hundred twenty (320) clock hours. Approximately 50% of the course is spent in the field and 50% in the classroom.
Graduates are qualified to operate backhoes, excavators, dozers, scrapers, graders, and loaders in the following fields: construction, mining, industrial, and recycling fields. In addition to Heavy Equipment Operation, graduates are qualified to perform duties such as, site-preparation, flagging, grade-checking, and surveying.
No sharing equipment after first week of instruction. Approximately 4 hours operating your own equipment daily. Direct hands-on operation of backhoes, excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, and scrapers. Students will spend approximately 50% of training time in the field doing designed projects, including set-up, grade checking, cut and fill and preventative maintenance. Each student will choose and specialize in 2 types of equipment, while becoming safe to operate all six major types.
Classroom time consists of engineering, safety, applied math, and volume computations. Surveying training consists of the proper use of laser levels, transits, chain and rod, plumb bob and hand-sight levels. Actual projects are surveyed throughout the student’s tenure. Students perform all projects under the supervision of Craft Certified instructors whom advise and guide them as needed. Construction conditions exist to train students in a work atmosphere
*WCT highly recommends pairing this course with our Class-A CDL program. Having a Class-A CDL exponentially increases the job opportunities for graduates of this course.

Coordinated Excavation Team Operations (C.E.T.O.P.S) & Hazwoper 120
Pre-requisites: Graduated from 8 Week Heavy Equipment Operator Course
This course allows Heavy Equipment Operator Graduates to maximize their training by working as part of an excavating team and putting their operating skills to use in realistic working conditions. This course is an excellent opportunity for those with little or no previous construction site experience to obtain a very realistic "feel" for what to expect when hired onto a job site. Beginning with blueprints and an unprepared site, the team completes all project layout, grading, and excavation tasks required for a building project. Basic surveying skills, rough and finish grading, road building, utilities trenching, setting culverts, material handling, and digging foundations all come together in this project. Additional NCCER credentials may be earned during this course.
